Kyson / Concludes Singles Series With New Track 'Forest Green'

Kyson 2018 3 small

Kyson - the moniker of Australian-born and now Berlin-based producer, singer and songwriter Jian Liew - has today released ‘Forest Green’ as the final installment of his 4-track singles series with B3SCI / Majestic Casual Records. ‘Forest Green’ is streaming everywhere now, listen/share HERE.

The first two singles in this 4-track series showcased an electronic soundscape whilst in contrast, the final 2 singles have introduced a more indie-fuelled sound to Kyson’s repertoire, channeling the likes of King Krule and Mac DeMarco. ‘Forest Green’ in particular is built around Jian’s vocals which have gradually become a more prominent feature of his work as he’s delved into fresh indie influences.

Speaking about the latest release, Kyson himself shares: “‘Forest Green' came about from a poem I wrote a while ago. The line ‘there’s a river in a corridor’ was the starting point and I guess it’s my way of asking the question or exploring the idea that we are all so often subconsciously pushed or harassed by our own egos, problems, and pain in directions we may not want to be. It’s about just taking a minute to ponder life, death and love and perhaps defending our right to be able to think about these things in a little more depth.”

All 4 tracks in this singles series are now streaming online HERE and will be released as a limited edition vinyl disc on 26th October - one side showcasing the 2 electronic tracks and the other side more indie styled, both working together to give an exciting glimpse into the scope of Kyson’s abilities and setting the tone for future material to come. The most hypnotising songs are ones we can sink in to, forgetting about everything as their words and melodies wash over us, and that’s the kind of musical alchemy Kyson creates. Kyson’s abstract electro-folk is designed to take you closer to his complex and nomadic soul. Skin-prickling and strange; soul-bearing and melodious all at the same time, Jian’s latest work could be described as a cocktail of Ben Howard’s vulnerable vocals and Arthur Russell’s entrancing production, but Jian’s ear for a strong hook elevates it into something greater; a sound he can call his own.

Kyson began his career when he unexpectedly won an official Bon Iver remix competition with a remix of 'Holocene'. Such lauded early recognition of his work encouraged him to pursue his music making more seriously. Two album releases later - via Friends Of Friends, the LA electronic label affiliated with notable such acts as Shlohmo and Tomas Barfod - and with album number three on the horizon, Kyson made his return this summer with the with a series of single releases, each track individually released via B3SCI / Majestic Casual Records. The series began with ‘Every High’ which spent the best part of a week at the top of the Hype Machine chart and was followed up by ‘Clear Air’ which has received heavy playlisting support from Spotify. ‘Have My Back’ continued the singles series which is then completed today with the release of ‘Forest Green’.
