Soap&Skin / Releases New Single 'Surrounded' Ahead of Forthcoming Third Studio Album
Austria’s Anja Plaschg, working under her musical alias Soap&Skin today shares a new track ‘Surrounded'.
Heralding the announcement of 'From Gas to Solid / you are my friend' earlier this year saw Plaschg unveil ‘Heal', an accompanying video for the track ‘Italy' and continues today with ‘Surrounded'. The album spans the aural spectrum from which this extraordinary artist draws and ‘Surrounded', imbued with an earthy, terse grandeur continues to enthrall.
Speaking of the track, she explains; “I wrote the main parts of this song twelve years ago and often played it live as a piano version, but I would never hit the high note with my voice and always felt that I wasn't ready, I wasn't there yet, I didn’t know what it was about. But it’s about collective desire, being surrounded and consumed by the unreleased. It’s about deadlocked patterns being released into the consciousness, which is really what From Gas to Solid / you are my friend is all about.”
Having embraced motherhood, Plaschg has continued working composing and performing a number of theatre and film scores – a version of Italy was nominated for a prestigious Italian David Di Donatello award earlier this year for best use of song in film. She also released the brilliant ‘Sugarbread' EP in 2013 whilst in 2015 came her inimitable cover of Omar Souleyman’s ‘Mawal Jamar' more recently have been performances as part of Andre de Ridders Stargaze ensemble (along with Anna Calvi and Laeticia Sadier) paying tribute to David Bowie’s 'Blackstar’.
'From Gas to Solid / you are my friend' is released on 26th October through Play It Again Sam and available on all formats via all usual outlets here.
